S.E.A.R.C.H. Fundraiser @ McNalley's Tavern

So it's a Thursday night in Regina Saskatchewan and we have been asked to play the fundraiser for S.E.A.R.C.H (student energy in action for Regina community health) we played and second annual fundraiser it was my first gig with the band September 11th 2014 and they liked us enough to come back and and play the third annual which was a great honour. but as some of you know Jay played his last gig for us on drums at the Fat badger in March. we were short a drummer for the gig and we had already committed to it. I put out and add on kijiji looking for a drummer. I got a phone call and I heard a familiar voice on the other end, "I'm calling about the drummer add you posted". turns out a man I hadn't seen in months that I had previously played with was looking for a band. we had about a month to go before the gig and I figured if anyone could learn our songs that this guy could he put in lots of practice we felt ready but only one way to know for sure. we hit the stage at McNalley's that Thursday night and blasted through our songs without fail we through him into the fire and he didn't even blink. when we got off the stage it was definitely official Jed Evans was our new drummer.
second on the stage was Beautiful Thieves, what a great show they put on. and they can probably tell you I was the loud guy in the corner. I enjoyed every note they played. next up was Diffusing Grey the show was complete with even a few covers pulled off wonderfully. I can't say enough good things about everyone in these two bands and the bands themselves. but they're both an example of what happens when the right group of people get together... that creative magic where you seemingly pull music from thin air and create something tangible and in the case of these bands something awesome. Kinder Scout as a band would be honoured to play with these bands again.
After the fundraiser was over McNalley's own house band Leather Cobra played a set. what can I say about them? WOW! eighties covers like you wouldn't believe. voices, tones, stage presence were spot on. this was easily the best night I have ever had at a gig where I played. maybe S.E.A.R.C.H. will have us back again and hopefully you will be there next time. What a Blast! - Todd
